Helena and Surendra Kaushik were honored by a Legislative Resolution of the New York Assembly in a presentation ceremony in the well of the Assembly chambers in Albany on Monday, June 15, 2009. The Assembly Resolution No. 369 was adopted on April 6, 2009 and it was presented to Surendra Kaushik by the Hon. Assemblywoman Sandy Galef of the 20th district of New York. Helena Kaushik could not attend due to her physical disability.

Helena and Surendra were honored for establishment of the Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s P.G. College in 1999 in Surendra’s village Malsisar in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, about 150 miles from Delhi and 35 km west of BITS, Pilani.

The Resolution, in part, stated: Congratulating Helena and Surendra Kaushik upon the occasion of their designation for special recognition and commemorating their dedication to the higher education of women… Whereas, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues, friends, and family; and Whereas, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate the pursuit of excellence in education and service to the community; and Whereas Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Helena and Surendra Kaushik upon the occasion of their designation for special recognition and commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College; and Whereas, the mission of the Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College is to prepare young women to achieve excellence in their endeavors and teach them to be visionary and great leaders in their chosen professions and vocations; the college strives to provide the students with quality education and will train the students to become leaders so that they can effectively serve their family, country and above all be good citizen of this world; and Whereas, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals for the benefit of others which Helena and Surendra Kaushik have displayed throughout their lives, and be it Resolved, This Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Helena and Surendra Kaushik upon this occasion, … and be it further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Helena and Surendra Kaushik, Briarcliff Manor, New York, New York, and to the Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College, Malsisar, India.
